Lawmakers Reach Bipartisan Deal on Infrastructure Funding

Legislators from both major parties announced a compromise this week on a long-stalled package to fund repairs to roads, bridges, and aging water systems. The deal, hammered out over weeks of closed-door talks, drew cautious praise from officials who had feared another impasse.

The agreement directs money toward projects that leaders described as overdue, including replacing lead pipes and shoring up structurally deficient bridges.

A rare compromise

Negotiators from each side claimed wins while acknowledging concessions. “Nobody got everything they wanted, which is usually how you know it’s a real deal,” one lawmaker said.

The measure still faces procedural hurdles before it can take effect, but sponsors expressed confidence it had the votes to pass.
