Reforestation Project Restores 10,000 Hectares of Woodland

A reforestation effort spanning several years has restored an estimated ten thousand hectares of degraded woodland, organizers announced this week. The project paired large-scale planting of native species with agreements that give nearby communities a stake in protecting the new forest.

Early monitoring shows wildlife returning and streams running clearer, signs that the ecosystem is beginning to heal.

Beyond planting trees

Organizers stressed that survival, not the number of saplings put in the ground, is the real measure of success. Local rangers now maintain firebreaks and guard against illegal logging.

“Planting is the easy part,” a project lead said. “Keeping a forest alive takes people who care about it every day.”
